The Agriculture and Tourism Directorates in Homs launched an afforestation campaign on Monday in the Maskaneh junction area, planting 400 saplings of pine and fruit‑bearing pistachio trees. The initiative aims to expand green spaces and strengthen the region’s vegetation cover as part of ongoing environmental restoration efforts.

Sustained Efforts to Restore Natural Landscapes

Dr. Khaled Al‑Tawileh, Director of Agriculture in Homs, stated that the campaign coincides with the Agriculture Directorate’s celebration of Arbor Day and is part of a broader series of activities aimed at rehabilitating the region’s natural cover. He noted that this year’s afforestation plan includes planting and restoring approximately 50 hectares, contributing to biodiversity and combating land degradation.

Collaboration Between Agriculture and Tourism

Engineer Loris Maqsoud, Director of Tourism in Homs, emphasized that the campaign reflects the ongoing cooperation between the two directorates and aligns with the Ministry of Agriculture’s national initiative titled “Our Forests… A Saga Written by the Sacrifices of Our Heroes.” She highlighted that raising awareness about the importance of trees supports the national economy and promotes tourism, as forests symbolize beauty and sustainability.

Multiple Afforestation Activities Across Homs

Throughout the current planting season, Homs has witnessed several afforestation campaigns across various neighborhoods and rural areas, with participation from governmental bodies and local communities. These efforts aim to revive green spaces, strengthen environmental awareness, and encourage collective responsibility in protecting and preserving nature.
